My Services

Within my practice of working with individuals or families, I utilize a variety of evidence based modalities to guide my therapeutic interventions: Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Narrative Therapy, Trauma-informed, and Mindfulness. It is through the combination of evidence based practice and the relational, supportive therapeutic relationship that provides a path for individuals to restore a sense of safety, strength, and self-worth.

Child & Youth Therapy

I work closely with your child (10+ years old) or teenager individually during the sessions.  At times I invite the parent(s) to participate in the session for the purpose of improving the parent-child relationship.

I have supported children and teens in their journey to overcome and manage:

  • Academic stress and pressure;

  • Bullying and peer pressure;

  • Body image and self-esteem issues;

  • Family conflicts and relationship issues;

  • Identity and self-discovery;

  • Anxiety and depression;

  • Trauma and abuse;

  • Grief and loss

Family Counselling

 The intention of family counselling is to improve the relationship between all members of the family unit. There may be times when all family members participate in a session, or the session is hosted with specific family members to complete the work.

I have supported families in their journey to:

  • Improve communication skills;

  • Build parenting and attachment skills;

  • Create learning and experiential opportunities for repair within the parent-child relationship;

  • Navigate blended and adoptive family issues.

  • Work/life stress;

  • Anxiety and depression;

  • Interpersonal relationship issues;

  • Grief and loss (related to non-death events);

Fee and Payment

Therapy services are covered by many workplace extended health care plans. Check with your provider to find out if the fee is covered. Social work services are considered a health expense and can be claimed on your income tax return.

My standard rate is $140 per session (50 minutes). I have a sliding scale for people with financial limitations; these spots are limited.

I currently accept e-transfer payments and can direct-bill insurance benefits providers such as Green Shield and NIHB. Invoices will be provided upon completion of the appointment.

Cancellations

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in a therapist’s day that could have been filled by another client. As such, I require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged the regular fee.

FAQs

  • Reaching out for therapy can be an intimidating process, especially if therapy is completely new to you. However, when you feel ready to take the step to embark on this new journey, I want you to know that many people reach out for therapy services for a variety of reasons. This typically happens when people are ready to make a change in their lives. They want to develop new skills or new insights into patterns of behaviours or thoughts.

  • In the first therapy session, we will discuss confidentially and expectations for counselling, i.e. frequency of sessions, as well as therapeutic goals. The therapeutic goals are our measuring tools to check in with from time to time to ensure that we are meeting your identified needs. Since our daily lives are fluid and change is inevitable, we will realign our therapeutic goals when needed.

    With respect to the frequency of sessions, this depends on your preference as well as the focus of your therapeutic goals. Your preference may be to meet weekly or biweekly; this will be explored during the first session. Some therapeutic goals require long-term counselling while other therapeutic goals can be met in a shorter length of time. However, the decision to pause or stop therapy is your decision to make at any point.

  • During the initial consultation or session, we will discuss what therapy approach would best meet your therapeutic goals and the needs of your current lived experience. While I practice from an eclectic approach in meeting the client and where they are in their life, all of the practices I utilize are evidence base. This means there have been studies demonstrating the effectiveness of a specific intervention with a presented challenge. For example, somatic interventions are a bottom up approach and are recommended for individuals who have experienced trauma as one therapy choice.

  • Therapy works for many people with various experiences. Getting the most from therapy requires a willingness from the client to show up in the safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space each session.
