About Me
Melanie Wuytenburg, MSW, RSW
REGISTERED SOCIAL WORKER, PSYCHOTHERAPIST
I believe that everyone is doing their best at any given moment and that everyone has the ability to heal. Many people I work with are tired of old patterns of behaviours, thoughts and beliefs interfering in their lives. They hold a curiosity about wanting to learn more about their emotions, relationships with others and their inner world. With compassion, I support individuals to engage in exploring how such patterns, thoughts and beliefs are held within the body, impacting their relationship with themselves and others.
Through exploration, in a safe, curious and collaborative manner, I will assist you on your journey in learning your own strengths, skills and answers you are seeking.
For over 15 years I have had the honour and privilege of teaching and supporting many individuals (children, teenagers and adults) and families in a variety of life situations. I have always sought to provide an empathic, non-judgmental, and collaborative space to explore your goals and develop alternative strategies that encourage and promote positive outcomes for you. It was through my collective professional and personal experience, that I became passionate about wanting to provide trauma-informed counselling to assist individuals in being able to understand and make sense of their lived experience while moving towards personal growth.
I completed my Honours of Social Work degree in 2008 and Masters of Social Work in 2014, both from King’s University College through Western University. Prior to becoming a Counsellor, I had the experience of working with adults experiencing pervasive mental health issues within the Adult Outpatient Ambulatory Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital and supporting adolescents and children within the mental health system at Child Parent Resource Institute. For several years, I worked within the child welfare system supporting children, youth, and caregivers in a variety of roles. Throughout my practice within the child welfare sector, I approached my work through an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-colonial lens, which I continue to integrate into my clinical practice. I am committed to the journey of unlearning/learning required to be an ally to BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA communities.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and trying new recipes, camping, reading, gardening and being active. I love exploring new places!
